X Introduces New Privacy Controls for Users to Manage Data Usage by Grok AI Chatbot

Date:

Elon Musk’s social media platform X has rolled out new privacy controls allowing users to manage whether their posts contribute to the training of the Grok AI chatbot. As of July 27, 2024, users on the web can now choose to exclude their public posts from being used to enhance Grok’s capabilities. This option will soon be available on mobile devices as well.

The default setting permits X to utilize user-generated content to train Grok, which is powered by Musk’s xAI startup. However, users have the option to prevent their data from being used by either adjusting their privacy settings or setting their accounts to private.

Grok, which launched in November 2023, offers advanced AI-driven interactions for X Premium subscribers. This feature was introduced to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and relies heavily on X data for training and real-time updates. For those who prefer their interactions to remain private, these new controls provide a valuable layer of privacy.
