New Infrastructure Project to Ease Traffic Around Mall of the Emirates

Date:

A major new infrastructure project aims to significantly reduce travel times around the busy Mall of the Emirates area. Spearheaded by the RTA and guided by directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the AED165 million project includes a variety of enhancements to roads and surrounding infrastructure in Al Barsha.

Central to this project is the construction of a 300-meter bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, providing direct access to Mall of the Emirates’ parking facilities for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali. This new route is expected to cut travel time from ten minutes to just one minute. Similarly, motorists from Umm Suqeim will see their travel times reduced from fifteen minutes to eight minutes.

The project, executed in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim, involves a comprehensive upgrade of existing roadways, including resurfacing older sections, improving bus stations, and enhancing pedestrian and cycling lanes. These improvements also extend to rainwater drainage and landscaped areas.

Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, stated that the project will also include widening the current ramp at the Umm Suqeim intersection, improving surface roads around the mall, developing new signalized intersections, and converting nearby streets to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

This initiative aims to provide a seamless and efficient driving experience for motorists and enhance the overall infrastructure around one of Dubai’s most popular shopping destinations.
