Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Join The Batman Part II as DC Expands Its Gotham Universe

Date:

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly gearing up for a major move into Gotham City, with industry insiders revealing that she is in the final stages of negotiations to join The Batman Part II. According to reports, her potential casting would mark her return to a major comic-book franchise four years after concluding her journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If the deal progresses, Johansson will first complete filming for The Exorcist, a project she recently signed onto, before shifting her focus to the highly anticipated Batman sequel. She is expected to join Robert Pattinson, who will once again step into the role of the Dark Knight under the direction of Matt Reeves, who is also co-writing the screenplay.

While details about Johansson’s character remain a mystery, speculation is growing as DC Studios prepares to begin production next spring. The film is currently tracking toward an October 2027 theatrical release, adding to the excitement surrounding this next chapter of Gotham’s gritty world. Reeves previously hinted at the secrecy surrounding the script, sharing how he and co-writer Mattson Tomlin kept it under lock and code while Pattinson reviewed early drafts.

Beyond her possible Gotham debut, Johansson has been building an impressive slate of new franchises. She recently helped revive the Jurassic World universe with Jurassic World: Rebirth, which earned $868 million globally. A sequel is already in development. She also made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, which premiered at Cannes, and will soon appear in James Gray’s Paper Tiger alongside Miles Teller and Adam Driver. Her growing list of projects highlights a dynamic new phase in her career as she explores roles both in front of and behind the camera.
