Date:

Actor James Van Der Beek has clarified the real reason behind his absence from the recent Dawson’s Creek reunion, assuring fans that it had nothing to do with his cancer diagnosis. Best known for portraying Dawson Leery, the 48-year-old appeared virtually at the reunion, sparking concern among fans who were aware of his ongoing health journey.

In a recent interview, Van Der Beek shared that he was unable to attend the Broadway reunion in person due to a severe stomach illness that left him unwell and caused noticeable weight loss. He emphasised that the situation was temporary and unrelated to cancer, adding that he is now feeling significantly better than he did a few months ago. The actor also expressed gratitude for the support he has received, describing himself as “fortunate despite an unfortunate diagnosis.”

Reflecting on his health journey, Van Der Beek described it as longer and more demanding than expected, requiring patience discipline and inner strength. He revealed that the experience helped him recognise his own resilience. While he continues to undergo treatment for colorectal cancer, the actor has chosen to keep details of his medical care private.

Van Der Beek also recalled the shock of his diagnosis, explaining that he had considered himself extremely healthy before noticing changes in his body that prompted him to seek medical advice. Despite the initial fear and uncertainty, he remains optimistic and focused on recovery, reassuring fans that he is moving forward with renewed strength.
