Dubai Schools Announce Earlier Friday Dismissal Starting 2026

Date:

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) of Dubai has confirmed a major update to the weekly school schedule affecting private schools and early childhood centres. Starting Friday, January 9, 2026, classes on Fridays will end by 11:30am, earlier than the current noon dismissal. This change aligns with the nationwide adjustment of Friday prayer times, which will begin at 12:45pm from January 2, allowing Muslim students and staff to return home in time for congregational prayers.

The new schedule applies to all private schools in Dubai, requiring parents to adjust pick-up and drop-off routines. Schools are also permitted to implement flexible or staggered dismissal plans to balance operational and academic needs while ensuring minimal disruption to learning. Additionally, students in Grade 6 and above may apply for online learning on Fridays, pending parental consultation and KHDA approval, offering greater flexibility for older students.

This shift prioritises student wellbeing while maintaining curriculum compliance and ensures a smooth transition to the new Friday timetable across Dubai’s private education sector.
