Samsung and AMD May Partner on Advanced 2nm Chip Manufacturing in 2026

Date:

Samsung Electronics is reportedly in talks with AMD to manufacture next-generation chipsets using an advanced 2nm process, signaling a potential shift in the semiconductor landscape. According to industry reports, the collaboration could be finalized as early as January 2026, with Samsung’s foundry division producing prototype chips designed by AMD. These processors are expected to power AMD’s future CPUs and could mark a significant move away from reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, as rising production costs push companies to explore alternative manufacturing partners.

Sources suggest that Samsung plans to use its second-generation 2nm fabrication technology, known as SF2P, to create these chips. The initial phase may involve a multi-project wafer approach, allowing multiple designs to be tested on a single silicon wafer before mass production begins. One of the key considerations for AMD is whether Samsung’s foundry can consistently deliver the high performance and efficiency standards required for its next wave of processors.

If the agreement is completed, AMD would join a growing list of major technology firms working with Samsung for chip fabrication. In recent months, Samsung has secured high-profile semiconductor partnerships with companies such as Tesla for AI automotive chips and Apple for next-generation camera sensors. Industry analysts note that escalating costs at competing foundries have encouraged global tech companies to diversify their supply chains, making Samsung an increasingly attractive option for advanced chip manufacturing.
