The Pakistan Super League is officially stepping into a new phase as plans to expand the tournament to eight teams gather major momentum. The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that interest in the league’s growth has exceeded expectations, with 12 investor groups submitting bids for the two new franchises. These bids have arrived from five different countries, including the United States Australia Canada the UAE and Pakistan, highlighting the PSL’s growing international appeal.
According to the PCB, the franchise expansion process is being carried out through a structured and transparent system designed to meet global sporting and commercial standards. The first stage of evaluation will conclude on December 27, after which only technically qualified bidders will move forward. The final competitive bidding round is scheduled to take place on January 8 at the Islamabad Convention Centre, where ownership rights for the two new teams will be awarded.
The expansion is no longer just a proposal. Earlier this month, the PCB officially announced the PSL 11 window, confirming that the 2026 season will run from March 26 to May 3 and will mark the league’s first-ever eight-team edition. This move is expected to open up additional playing opportunities for both domestic and overseas cricketers while increasing the league’s overall commercial value.
Investors will also be paying close attention to team identity. The PCB has already shortlisted potential city names including Faisalabad Rawalpindi Hyderabad Sialkot Muzaffarabad and Gilgit. Successful bidders will be allowed to select from this pool, adding another strategic layer to the franchise auction.
With global investors lining up and a clear auction roadmap in place, the PSL’s expansion signals confidence in the league’s long-term future. The upcoming December 27 update is expected to provide the first real indication of how strongly the market values this new chapter in Pakistan Super League history.
