Avatar Fire and Ash Slows in India on Day 5 as Dhurandhar Continues Box Office Reign

Date:

James Cameron’s much-awaited sci-fi epic Avatar Fire and Ash continues to perform strongly worldwide, but its journey in Indian cinemas remains challenging. By the end of Day 5, the film managed to collect approximately ₹85.50 crore nett across all Indian languages. On Tuesday alone, it added around ₹9.25 crore, indicating stable but underwhelming growth compared to expectations for the globally celebrated franchise.

Despite premium formats and strong brand recognition, the film has not witnessed the explosive rise usually associated with Avatar releases in India. Industry reports suggest that audience response has been steady rather than exceptional, limiting its overall momentum in the domestic market.

On Day 5, the English version recorded an average occupancy of about 20.84 percent. Chennai emerged as the strongest metro, registering peak occupancy levels close to 30.75 percent. Morning shows opened on a softer note at nearly 12 percent, but attendance improved through the day, with evening shows crossing 27 percent. While this reflects gradual interest, it has not been enough to significantly boost collections.

The biggest challenge for Avatar Fire and Ash remains Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which continues its extraordinary run. On Tuesday, Dhurandhar added another ₹17.25 crore nett, taking its India total to a massive ₹589.50 crore. Its sustained dominance has reduced screen availability and audience share for Avatar Fire and Ash, slowing its box office growth further.

The road ahead looks even tougher as the festive season brings fresh competition. Upcoming releases around Christmas and New Year are expected to intensify the battle for screens and audiences, making it harder for existing films to expand their reach.

Globally, however, Avatar Fire and Ash tells a very different story. The film has recorded a powerful worldwide opening of around $347.30 million, translating to nearly ₹2,900 crore. With a production budget exceeding $400 million, the film continues to underline the global strength of the Avatar franchise, even as its Indian performance lags behind expectations.
