Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are gearing up for a box office showdown this weekend with their films Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends With Us, respectively. At the world premiere of It Ends With Us in New York City on Tuesday night, Blake Lively was joined by Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Blake Lively, who also made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, supported her husband and his co-star Hugh at the red carpet premiere in July. According to a Deadline report, Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to dominate with a $50 million weekend in the US, while It Ends With Us is projected to open at $23-30 million.
The highly anticipated big screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The film, produced by Wayfarer Studios and Sony, will be released on August 9. Blake Lively, who also serves as a producer, has seen presales for It Ends With Us soar, with conservative estimates predicting a $23 million opening for the $25 million production. Strong presales suggest the film could open at $30 million, driven by the author’s dedicated fanbase.
Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine, which premiered on July 26, is projected to lead its third weekend with a $50 million collection. Directed, produced, and co-written by Shawn Levy, the MCU film recently became the second movie this year in the US and Canada to surpass $400 million, following Inside Out 2. The fastest film to hit $400 million remains Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, which achieved this milestone in five days in 2019.
It Ends With Us addresses the topic of domestic abuse and follows the journey of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), who overcomes a traumatic childhood to start anew and pursue her dream of opening her own business. A chance encounter with neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) leads to a passionate romance, but Lily soon discovers unsettling parallels between Ryle and her parents’ relationship.
