Dubai to Introduce Two New Salik Toll Gates on Key Roads in November 2024

Date:

Dubai is set to see the addition of two new Salik toll gates on major roads, starting in November 2024. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) initially announced this development on January 19. These new gates will be installed on Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing the city’s traffic management system.

The first of these gates will be positioned on the Business Bay Crossing along Al Khail Road. The second gate, named the Al Safa South Toll Gate, will be situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets. A key feature of the new toll system is that drivers crossing both the North and South Safa Gates within a one-hour period will only be charged once. This feature is also in place for the existing toll gates in Al Mamzar.

The toll fee remains at Dhs4 each time a vehicle passes through a Salik gate.

The introduction of these new gates is aimed at alleviating road congestion, providing drivers with a smoother, quicker route. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, emphasized that this initiative will help distribute traffic more evenly across Dubai’s road network. Furthermore, these policies are designed to encourage the public to opt for alternative transportation methods, such as the metro, buses, marine transport, and other soft mobility options.

The new Business Bay Crossing Gate is projected to reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by 15 percent and on Al Rebat Street by 16 percent. Meanwhile, the Al Safa South Gate is expected to decrease traffic turning from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street by 15 percent and reduce the traffic flow from Al Meydan and Al Safa Streets to Sheikh Zayed Road by 42 percent. Additionally, traffic volume on Sheikh Zayed Road between Financial Centre and Latifa Bint Hamdan Streets is anticipated to drop by 4 percent, optimizing the use of First Al Khail and Al Asayel Roads by up to 4 percent.

Salik, Dubai’s road toll collection system, was first implemented in 2007. Currently, there are eight toll gates operational across the city, with a toll fee of Dhs4 per gate.
