BLACKPINK Confirms New Mini Album ‘Deadline’ After Three-Year Hiatus, Fans React With Mixed Emotions

Date:

After a long gap of nearly three years, global K-pop sensation BLACKPINK has officially announced their return with a brand-new mini album titled Deadline, scheduled for release on February 27, 2026. The announcement has sent waves of excitement across the global fanbase, while also sparking debate among fans who were hoping for a full-length album.

The group revealed the news through a high-energy teaser video shared across their official social media platforms. The clip featured a dramatic title reveal confirming BLACKPINK 3rd Mini Album [DEADLINE], along with the global release timing of 12AM EST and 1PM KST. The album name aligns with BLACKPINK’s ongoing world tour of the same name, which is set to conclude on January 26, 2026, at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium.

This release marks BLACKPINK’s first group project since Born Pink in 2022 and follows The Album released in 2020. While fans celebrated the long-awaited comeback, reactions were divided once it became clear the project would be a mini album rather than a full studio release. Social media platforms quickly filled with comments expressing both joy and frustration. Many fans welcomed the return, calling it a moment of healing for the fandom, while others voiced disappointment over the limited format, questioning why such a long wait resulted in a shorter release.

Speculation around BLACKPINK’s comeback dates has circulated for over a year, with earlier reports suggesting a return in mid-2025 before multiple delays pushed the release to early 2026. According to the group’s management, the postponements were made to ensure quality and creative excellence. Despite the delays, anticipation has remained strong, making Deadline one of the most talked-about K-pop releases of the year.

During the hiatus, all four members remained highly active individually. Rosé earned international recognition through award nominations for her collaboration with Bruno Mars. Jennie expanded her influence in fashion with the launch of her independent label. Lisa established her own company and gained attention through major global appearances, while Jisoo balanced acting projects alongside preparations for new music collaborations. These solo successes have only heightened expectations for BLACKPINK’s return as a group.

The Deadline World Tour, which began in July 2025 in South Korea, has showcased both group performances and individual stages, allowing fans to experience each member’s artistic growth. With the tour nearing its final stop, the upcoming mini album is positioned as a powerful closing chapter to this era.

As February approaches, fans worldwide are eagerly counting down to see what sound and concept BLACKPINK will deliver next, even as discussions continue about the possibility of a future full-length album.
