Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced an increase in the minimum top-up amount for nol cards at Dubai Metro stations. Effective immediately, commuters using the Dubai Metro will need to load a minimum of Dhs50 onto their nol cards each time they top up.
Earlier this year, in January 2024, the RTA had raised the minimum top-up amount from Dhs5 to Dhs20 at metro station offices. However, this latest adjustment only applies to in-person top-ups at metro stations, while online top-ups remain exempt from the new requirement.
For those who prefer to avoid the queues at metro stations, the nolPay app offers a convenient alternative. By downloading the app, users can tap their nol card on their mobile device to access card information, including transaction history, current balance, and expiry date.
Additionally, users can easily check their nol card balance through several platforms, such as the RTA website, the Shail App, the RTA Dubai App, or by visiting the ticketing office at any metro station.
It’s also important to note that commuters need to maintain a minimum balance of Dhs15 on their nol card to cover a round trip on the Dubai Metro. One-way fares vary depending on the travel zones and the class selected, ranging from Dhs3 to Dhs15. A gold nol card provides access to the Metro’s first-class carriages, while a silver nol card offers regular access with dedicated spaces for women and children.
Beyond public transport, nol cards can be used for other RTA services, such as paying for taxi fares and parking fees at the Etihad Museum. However, the minimum fare for using a nol card in a taxi may vary based on the time and location of the ride.
Nol cards also offer additional perks, including discounts on various attractions across Dubai. Moreover, with over 2,000 shops and casual dining restaurants accepting nol cards as payment, you can even use the balance on your nol card to pay for groceries and snacks.
