Carlos Alcaraz Creates History With First Australian Open Title After Beating Novak Djokovic

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz etched his name into tennis history by winning his first-ever Australian Open title after defeating Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final at Rod Laver Arena. The 22-year-old Spaniard showed remarkable resilience as he came back from losing the opening set to claim a four-set victory and lift the Melbourne trophy for the first time in his career.

After dropping the first set 2-6 Alcaraz completely shifted momentum with aggressive baseline play and sharp shot-making. He dominated the second set 6-2 before tightening his grip on the match in the third set with a 6-3 win. Despite a strong push from Djokovic in the fourth set Alcaraz held his nerve to close out the match 7-5 and seal a historic triumph.

With this victory Alcaraz became the youngest male player to complete a career Grand Slam winning at least one singles title at the Australian Open French Open Wimbledon and US Open. He achieved this milestone at the age of 22 years and 258 days further cementing his status as one of the greatest talents of the modern era. The Australian Open win also marked his seventh Grand Slam title overall adding to his growing legacy in the sport.

Alcaraz’s 2026 Australian Open campaign was dominant from start to finish as he dropped only three sets throughout the tournament. He entered the final as the favourite and delivered under pressure even against a 10-time Australian Open champion. For Djokovic the defeat means he must wait longer for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title while Alcaraz continues to redefine tennis history with each milestone.
