Drivers travelling around the Dubai World Trade Centre can expect significantly smoother journeys after the Roads and Transport Authority officially opened a new one kilometre bridge as part of the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project. The long-awaited infrastructure upgrade is designed to tackle congestion in one of the city’s busiest intersections.
The newly launched two-lane second-level bridge can accommodate up to 3000 vehicles per hour and carries traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street heading towards Al Karama and Deira. Travel time between the two major roads has been cut dramatically from around six minutes to just one minute significantly improving traffic flow in the area.
The wider development aims to reduce intersection waiting times from approximately 12 minutes to only 90 seconds. The junction connects several key arteries including Sheikh Zayed Road Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street Sheikh Rashid Street 2nd December Street Zabeel Palace Street and Al Majlis Street making it one of Dubai’s most critical traffic hubs.
With the opening of this bridge the overall World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project has reached 60 percent completion. Three bridges are already operational while construction continues on two additional flyovers that will link Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Majlis Street towards 2nd December Street. These remaining bridges are scheduled to open in October.
Once complete the project will create seamless traffic movement from 2nd December Street in Jumeirah and Al Satwa to Al Majlis Street and onwards to Al Mustaqbal Street serving the Dubai World Trade Centre and DIFC districts. The development is also expected to strengthen connectivity across Zabeel Al Satwa Al Karama Al Jafiliya and Al Mankhool benefiting more than half a million residents and visitors.
According to RTA leadership the project represents one of the most strategically important road upgrades in Dubai’s transport network reflecting ongoing efforts to improve mobility and overall road performance across the emirate.
