Kanye West also known as Ye reportedly appeared visibly tired while giving testimony in a Los Angeles courtroom during a trial related to his former Malibu property. The musician and fashion entrepreneur is currently involved in a legal dispute concerning renovation work carried out on the oceanfront residence he once owned.
During the court session reports indicated that the artist repeatedly yawned and occasionally closed his eyes while answering questions from attorneys. Observers in the courtroom noted that he often responded with “I don’t recall” when questioned about details regarding construction work on the luxury property originally designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
The legal case focuses on allegations made by contractor Tony Saxon who claims he was not paid for work performed on the Malibu mansion. Saxon has also alleged unsafe working conditions and wrongful dismissal after raising concerns during the renovation process.
The property in question is a four bedroom oceanfront residence measuring approximately 4000 square feet. According to court filings the building underwent extensive structural alterations while the artist attempted to transform it into a minimalist self sustaining residence.
The house was purchased by West in 2021 for around 57 million dollars. After the ambitious renovation project stalled the property was later sold in 2024 for approximately 21 million dollars resulting in a substantial financial loss.
Court documents also describe unusual design ideas proposed during the project including removing traditional structural features and replacing a staircase with a slide. During the construction period the property was reportedly stripped down to a concrete shell leaving it without windows doors electricity or plumbing.
The trial is expected to continue as the court reviews the contractor’s claims regarding compensation workplace safety and alleged retaliation.
