Real Madrid Thrash Manchester City as PSG Defeat Chelsea in Champions League Round of 16

Date:

European football delivered a dramatic night as Real Madrid secured a dominant victory over Manchester City while Paris Saint-Germain defeated Chelsea in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clashes.

Midfielder Federico Valverde delivered an outstanding performance for Real Madrid, scoring a remarkable hat trick to help his team claim a convincing 3-0 victory. The Spanish giants controlled the match from the start at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, putting themselves in a strong position ahead of the second leg.

Valverde opened the scoring after receiving a long pass from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Uruguayan midfielder dribbled past City’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before calmly finishing. He later doubled the lead with a precise low strike and completed his hat trick with a composed finish following a smart combination with Brahim Díaz.

The Spanish side dominated despite the absence of injured star Kylian Mbappé. Real Madrid also had a chance to extend the lead further when Vinícius Júnior won a penalty, although the Brazilian’s spot kick was saved.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted the result was disappointing but remained hopeful about the second leg, stating that anything can still happen in football.

In another high scoring match, Paris Saint Germain produced a strong performance to defeat Chelsea 5-2 at Parc des Princes. Goals from Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and a late double from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sealed the victory for the French champions.

Chelsea managed to score through Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernández, but defensive mistakes late in the match allowed PSG to pull away and take a comfortable advantage.

Elsewhere in Europe, Arsenal managed to maintain their unbeaten run in European competition with a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. The equaliser came late in the game when Kai Havertz scored an 89th minute penalty against his former club.

Leverkusen had earlier taken the lead through Robert Andrich, but Arsenal’s late response ensured they remain in a strong position heading into the return leg.

Meanwhile, Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt continued their impressive Champions League journey with a 3-0 win over Sporting CP. Goals from Sondre Brunstad Fet, Ole Didrik Blomberg, and Kasper Høgh helped the underdogs secure another memorable European victory.
