Javier Bardem Voices “Free Palestine” Message While Presenting Award With Priyanka Chopra at 2026 Oscars

Date:

A powerful political moment unfolded during the 98th Academy Awards when Javier Bardem delivered a brief but impactful statement on stage while appearing alongside Priyanka Chopra.

The two actors walked onto the stage at the prestigious ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to present the award for Best International Feature Film. During their appearance Bardem expressed an anti war message and voiced support for Palestine.

Standing beside him Priyanka Chopra listened as Bardem said “No to war and Free Palestine” while wearing a pin carrying a similar message on his tuxedo. His remarks were met with loud applause from the audience attending the global film event.

Priyanka Chopra who attended the ceremony wearing a white gown from Dior acknowledged the moment with a nod before the presenters continued with the announcement of the award.

The Best International Feature Film prize eventually went to Sentimental Value, adding another highlight to the night’s ceremony.

Political Messages at the Oscars Ceremony

Earlier in the evening Bardem had already drawn attention on the red carpet by wearing a visible “No to War” symbol and a patch showing solidarity with Palestinians.

The ceremony was hosted by Conan O’Brien, who opened the event with a monologue acknowledging global tensions and the uncertain political climate around the world. He joked about being the “last human host” amid concerns about artificial intelligence replacing creative jobs in Hollywood.

O’Brien also emphasized that the awards celebrated filmmaking talent from across the globe with nominees representing more than 30 countries. He encouraged audiences to find optimism through art and storytelling even during difficult times.

The glamorous awards show took place during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions and security around the venue was increased. Organisers confirmed they were coordinating closely with U.S. authorities including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police in Los Angeles to ensure safety at the high profile event.

Despite the serious global backdrop the ceremony continued to celebrate international cinema while also reflecting the voices and viewpoints of artists attending one of the film industry’s biggest nights.
