Residents across the United Arab Emirates can look forward to the next official public holiday as authorities have confirmed the dates for Eid al-Fitr in 2026. The celebration is one of the most important occasions in Dubai and brings a much anticipated break for both public and private sector workers.
Eid Al Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan, a sacred period during which Muslims fast daily from sunrise to sunset. The festival begins at the start of Shawwal in the Islamic Hijri calendar and is celebrated with prayers gatherings and festive meals.
For 2026 the UAE has officially confirmed that Eid Al Fitr will begin on Thursday March 19. This announcement ensures a long weekend for residents across the country.
Private sector employees are expected to receive holidays from Thursday March 19 through Saturday March 21. As Sunday is already a standard weekend day many workers will still enjoy an extended break.
Public sector employees will benefit from a slightly longer holiday period running from Thursday March 19 until Sunday March 22 creating a four day weekend.
Public holidays in the UAE are determined by a combination of the Islamic lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar. While some holidays can be shifted to create extended weekends Eid holidays are fixed according to moon sightings and are not usually adjusted.
UAE Public Holiday Calendar 2026
In addition to Eid Al Fitr several other important public holidays are expected throughout the year. New Year’s Day will be observed on January 1 while Day of Arafah is predicted for May 26 followed by Eid al-Adha from May 27 to May 29.
The Islamic New Year is expected around mid June and Mawlid is likely to fall in late August with possible adjustments to align with long weekends.
The year will conclude with UAE National Day also known as Eid Al Etihad which will be celebrated on December 2 and December 3.
