Residents across the United Arab Emirates can start planning their year as key public holiday dates linked to Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha have been outlined for 2026. These two major Islamic celebrations are expected to account for a large portion of the country’s official holidays.
Public holidays in the UAE are guided by both the Gregorian calendar and the Islamic Hijri calendar. While some holidays may be shifted to create extended weekends, Eid holidays are fixed based on lunar observations and are not typically adjusted.
Eid Al Fitr 2026 Holiday Details
Eid al-Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan and is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in Dubai. In 2026 the holiday is set to begin on Thursday March 19.
This confirmation means residents can expect a long weekend stretching until Sunday March 22. Public sector employees will enjoy a four day break from Thursday to Sunday, while private sector workers will officially have Thursday to Saturday off with Sunday adding an additional rest day for many.
The holiday schedule has been confirmed by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Eid Al Adha 2026 Holiday Details
The second major Islamic festival Eid al-Adha commemorates the end of the pilgrimage season to Mecca.
The holiday period begins with Day of Arafah followed by three days of Eid celebrations. Based on current projections Arafat Day is expected to fall on Tuesday May 26 with Eid Al Adha continuing from Wednesday May 27 to Friday May 29.
When combined with the weekend this would result in a six day holiday period for many residents making it one of the longest breaks of the year.
UAE National Day Eid Al Etihad 2026
Another important celebration is UAE National Day, also known as Eid Al Etihad. This holiday is observed annually on December 2 and December 3 to mark the formation of the UAE.
In 2026 these dates fall on a Wednesday and Thursday. While there is a possibility of an extended weekend authorities are more likely to keep the official holidays limited to these two days, with any additional arrangements confirmed closer to the date.
Overall the 2026 public holiday calendar offers several opportunities for extended breaks, especially during Eid celebrations, allowing residents to plan travel relaxation or family time in advance.
