Johnny Depp will be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Rome Film Festival. Alongside this honour, his latest directorial project, “Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness,” will be showcased at the festival. This news was reported by Deadline. The film, “Modi,” presents a seventy-two-hour whirlwind in the life of the bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani, set against the war-torn Paris of 1916. It features performances by French actor Antonia Desplat and Riccardo Scamarcio.
The story of “Modi” explores Modigliani’s struggles as he evades the police and grapples with the idea of abandoning his career and leaving Paris. His encounters with fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine, and his muse Beatrice Hastings add depth to his tumultuous journey. With guidance from his friend and art dealer Leopold Zborowski, Modigliani’s night of hallucinations culminates in a pivotal meeting with American collector Maurice Gangnat, a figure who could change the course of his life.
Following its premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, “Modi” will next be screened in Rome. The festival will also honour Viggo Mortensen with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Mortensen will present his film, “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” which follows the character Vivienne Le Coudy, played by Vicky Krieps, navigating a complex relationship with Danish immigrant Holgen Olsen, portrayed by Mortensen, set against the backdrop of the 1860s American Civil War.
The 2024 Rome Film Festival is scheduled from October 16 to 27.
