Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is set to take center stage at Ball State University as the commencement speaker for its 2026 spring graduation ceremony. The event is scheduled for May 2 and will be held at the university’s Quad in Muncie Indiana bringing together thousands of graduating students and their families.
During the ceremony Jackman will address approximately 2800 students who are set to receive doctoral specialist master’s and bachelor’s degrees. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the arts and entertainment industry the university will also honor him with an honorary Doctor of Arts degree.
This appearance marks another visit for Jackman to the Ball State campus following his previous trips in recent months. He had earlier visited alongside Sutton Foster who is currently associated with the university’s theatre department. Their connection extends beyond academia as both performers previously shared the stage in the Broadway production The Music Man and later confirmed their relationship publicly.
Jackman also returned to the university in November where he hosted a special screening of his film Song Sung Blue ahead of its wider release. The film features Jackman and Kate Hudson portraying a musical duo inspired by a tribute act dedicated to legendary singer Neil Diamond.
University president Geoffrey S Mearns praised Jackman’s involvement highlighting his influence as a performer and his strong support for the arts and humanities. He expressed appreciation for Jackman’s continued engagement with the university community and anticipation for his address to the graduating class.
