Dubai has taken a major leap into the future of transportation with the completion of the world’s first dedicated flying taxi station. The announcement was confirmed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlighting the emirate’s push toward advanced and sustainable mobility solutions.
The newly completed vertiport, known as Dubai International Vertiport, is located close to Dubai International Airport and is set to play a key role in launching air taxi services later in 2026. This innovative hub is designed to handle around 170000 passengers annually and will connect major destinations including Downtown Dubai Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina.
Spanning approximately 3100 square metres the facility includes a four storey structure two level parking area dedicated charging systems for electric aircraft and climate controlled passenger areas. It also features multiple take off and landing pads specifically built for vertical aircraft operations.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Joby Aviation and the Roads and Transport Authority, who successfully conducted the first test flight in Dubai back in 2025. The flying taxis will be able to carry a pilot and up to four passengers at speeds reaching 200 miles per hour.
Travel times are expected to be dramatically reduced with journeys taking around 10 to 12 minutes compared to nearly 45 minutes by road. Pricing is also expected to be competitive similar to premium ride services making it an accessible option for residents and tourists.
Dubai plans to roll out additional vertiports in key locations such as Downtown Dubai Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah as part of the first phase. This initiative positions the city as a global pioneer in urban air mobility offering an integrated transport network that combines air taxis with metro buses and other transit systems.
A vertiport functions similarly to an airport but is specifically designed for vertical take off and landing aircraft allowing operations in dense urban environments without the need for long runways. The system aims to provide quick seamless boarding with minimal waiting times.
Officials emphasized that this project supports Dubai’s long term vision of adopting clean technology driven transport while enhancing connectivity and improving overall travel efficiency across the emirate.
