A fitness coach has sparked discussion online after revealing the unexpected effects he experienced from consuming Isabgol multiple times a day for nearly a month. Known widely in Indian households as a remedy for constipation, this fibre-rich supplement appears to offer a broader range of health benefits than commonly assumed.
Dan Go, who has over two decades of experience in health and fitness, shared his personal experiment in which he consumed two tablespoons of isabgol before each meal, three times daily, over a 28-day period. His intake amounted to roughly 48 to 56 grams of fibre per day from the supplement alone.
During the initial days, he experienced fatigue, which he later attributed to insufficient water intake. Since isabgol absorbs a significant amount of water in the digestive system, hydration plays a crucial role in preventing discomfort. Once he increased his fluid intake, his energy levels returned to normal.
By the third day, he began noticing a clear reduction in appetite. He reported feeling fuller between meals, leading to fewer cravings and less snacking without consciously trying to cut down on food. From day four onward, his bowel movements became more regular and improved significantly.
After about a week, he observed smoother digestion, with reduced bloating and gas, along with an overall sense of comfort in his stomach. According to him, isabgol works by forming a gel-like substance in the gut, which slows digestion, supports beneficial gut bacteria, and helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Despite these benefits, the coach emphasized that isabgol should not replace natural sources of fibre such as vegetables, fruits, and legumes. He also warned that the supplement may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with a history of bowel obstruction, severe gastrointestinal narrowing, swallowing difficulties, or those on medications that slow digestion should consult a healthcare professional before use.
He strongly advised maintaining proper hydration, suggesting that people consuming psyllium husk aim to drink sufficient water daily to avoid potential digestive issues.
