KKR Capitalize on Dropped Catch as Rinku Singh Guides Win Against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026

Date:

Kolkata Knight Riders finally secured their first victory of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, but the win came after a tense battle against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. Chasing a modest target of 156, Kolkata faced early trouble as both openers were dismissed without scoring in the opening overs.

A quickfire innings from Cameron Green, who struck 27 off just 13 balls, provided some early momentum. However, Rajasthan’s bowlers regained control during the middle phase, tightening the contest and keeping pressure on the hosts.

The turning point came in the 11th over when Rinku Singh, then on just 8 runs, offered a catching opportunity. The ball looped towards short third man, where Nandre Burger failed to complete what appeared to be a straightforward catch. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel initially moved for the ball but pulled back, possibly contributing to the confusion.

That missed chance proved costly. Rinku Singh went on to anchor the innings with a calm and composed knock, steering Kolkata to a four wicket victory and ending their winless run this season.

After the match, Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag openly acknowledged the impact of the dropped catch, calling it a decisive mistake. He admitted that despite strong bowling efforts, avoidable fielding errors and inconsistent execution ultimately cost his side the game.

The defeat prevented Rajasthan Royals from climbing to the top of the standings, leaving them in third place with only their second loss of the campaign. Meanwhile, the win offers a much needed boost for Kolkata Knight Riders as they look to revive their season.
