In a recent poll conducted by Empire magazine exploring the future of the entertainment industry, Todd Phillips, the director of the latest film “Joker: Folie a Deux,” voiced his opinion that cinemas should cease showing commercials before movie screenings. Phillips argues that commercials detract from the overall cinematic experience for audiences who have already paid for their tickets.

He emphasized that the excitement of watching a movie diminishes when commercials are played before the film begins. Phillips’ sentiment was echoed by other prominent filmmakers participating in the poll, including George Miller, Sean Baker, Sofia Coppola, and Daniel Scheinert.
