Novak Djokovic, currently holding the fifth spot in the ATP rankings, is preparing for a major return in 2025, potentially at the Brisbane International. Despite an injury that kept him out of the ATP Finals and forced his withdrawal from the Paris Masters, Djokovic, the reigning ATP Final champion, is focused on securing his 25th Major title next year.
Speaking to Sport Klub, Djokovic expressed his determination to return stronger in 2025. Jannik Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, echoed this sentiment in an interview with Italian media outlet Corriere della Sera, describing Djokovic as a ‘legend’. Cahill emphasized that legends like Djokovic always overcome tough challenges, citing his remarkable win at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as proof. Cahill added that Sinner’s team will not overly focus on rankings, instead aiming to enhance physical and technical skills for the Grand Slams, beginning with the Australian Open.
Djokovic’s 2024 season had its ups and downs. He reached the Australian Open semi-finals but was defeated by Jannik Sinner in four sets, marking his first loss at the Australian Open since 2018. His performances at other tournaments were mixed, with a third-round exit at Indian Wells to Luca Nardi, a semi-final loss to Casper Ruud at the Monte Carlo Masters, and an early exit in the Italian Open. An injury forced him to withdraw from the French Open quarterfinals, and he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. Djokovic’s highlight of the year was winning his first Olympic gold at the Paris Olympics by defeating Alcaraz. However, he faced a third-round defeat at the US Open against Alexei Popyrin.
Now ranked fifth in the ATP standings, Djokovic is gearing up for his 2025 return, potentially starting at the Brisbane International, ahead of the Australian Open.
