FC Barcelona secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg, with striker Robert Lewandowski netting twice against his former side. The Catalan giants delivered a stunning performance at home to take a significant advantage into the return leg in Germany.
Barcelona maintained complete control in the opening stages and got the breakthrough in the 25th minute when Raphinha slotted home following a period of relentless pressure. Despite multiple attempts to extend the lead, Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel pulled off a series of key saves to keep his team in the game until halftime.
However, the momentum continued for the hosts after the break. Just three minutes into the second half, Raphinha delivered a pinpoint assist to Lewandowski, who headed in from close range. The Polish striker struck again in the 66th minute with a powerful shot from inside the box to make it 3-0. Rising teenage sensation Lamine Yamal capped off the night in the 77th minute with a smooth finish from a swift counterattack.
Lewandowski praised his team’s display after the match, saying they must remain focused and not assume the job is done yet. “We played very well today, but the second leg in Germany will be another tough challenge. Our mindset is always to win, regardless of where we play,” he told Movistar Plus.
Barcelona’s unbeaten streak now stands at 23 matches across all competitions. They remain the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to have not lost a single game in 2025. With their sights set on a treble, they lead LaLiga by four points and are set to face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final later this month.
Under coach Hansi Flick, the team’s attacking trio of Lewandowski, Yamal, and Raphinha has been lethal, scoring 36 goals in 11 Champions League matches and 145 goals in 48 total competitive games this season. Dortmund coach Niko Kovac admitted his side was outplayed, stating, “We expected more, but Barcelona punished every mistake we made. Their attack is incredibly efficient.”
The second leg of this quarter-final promises intensity, but Barcelona’s emphatic display at home gives them one foot firmly in the semi-finals.
