Selena Gomez recently opened up about her preference for friends who remain unaffected by her celebrity status. In a new interview with Time, the multi-talented artist expressed her discomfort with competitive social circles, stating, “It’s a cliché, but girls are mean. It’s a very weird competition, being in the cool girls area—and then I’m just kind of like, there. I don’t know where I’m meant to belong.”
Gomez shared that her closest friends are a real estate agent, a producer, and a casting director, emphasizing their grounded nature. She appreciates that they “couldn’t give two f**ks” about her career in entertainment. This preference for authenticity and genuine connections highlights her desire to stay rooted despite her public persona.
Reflecting on her stardom, Gomez admitted, “It’s hard. You could be in a crowd of people and still feel alone. I still deal with that. You have to go through it. You can distract yourself and you can deny and deny all you want, but it’ll still be there. I just allow myself to have those days.”
Gomez also gushed about her relationship with boyfriend Benny Blanco, noting the unexpected nature of love. She praised his honesty and truthfulness, qualities she deeply values. Gomez mentioned that she had considered adopting at 35 if she hadn’t met someone significant.
Selena recently made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet with the cast of her new film Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Audiard. Alongside co-stars Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldana, and Adriana Paz, Gomez was honored with the Best Actress award during the festival’s closing ceremony.
