Cecily Strong made a surprise comeback to Saturday Night Live this weekend reprising her iconic role as Jeanine Pirro in a wildly entertaining Weekend Update segment. The crowd erupted with laughter when Strong’s Pirro splashed wine all over Colin Jost who appeared dressed as US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a twist-filled parody.
The sketch opened with James Austin Johnson portraying former President Donald Trump who introduced Strong’s character with enthusiasm announcing her fictional appointment as the acting US Attorney for Washington D.C. “Jeanine will be the newest addition to my incredible team in my administration” he said.
Strong delivered a characteristically over-the-top performance as Pirro responding with “And what a team Mr. President. I’m so proud to be part of this group full of Russian assets booze hounds and people famous for the little baby animals they’ve killed.”
Continuing in her signature style Strong’s Pirro addressed viewers with a theatrical declaration “That’s right the district or as the locals call it Chocolate City. So to all you soul sisters and brothers put the word out on the street there’s a bad new mama jama laying down the law getting down in funky town looking fine and sipping wine!”
The skit reached its comedic climax when Colin Jost burst in with a dramatic “Surprise!” playing Strong’s “old drinking buddy” Pete Hegseth. Pirro responded instinctively by hilariously spitting a mouthful of wine straight into his face creating a classic SNL moment.
As the sketch closed the mock-Trump asked Jost’s Hegseth “Have you been drinking again?” tying the punchline to the satirical themes of the segment.
Fans were thrilled to see Strong’s return and quickly took to social media to praise the performance. One viewer wrote “I had my fingers crossed Cecily Strong would make a cameo on SNL as Jeanine Pirro dousing Colin Jost with wine and Lorne did not disappoint.” Another fan exclaimed “I gasped loudly when Cecily Strong walked out! It’s so good to see her especially doing Jeanine Pirro again!”
Cecily Strong’s return reminded audiences of her unmatched comedic presence and timing adding yet another unforgettable chapter to the legacy of SNL.
