Sequel to Crazy Rich Asians Confirmed as a Series Not a Film – Constance Wu and Henry Golding to Return

Date:

Fans of Crazy Rich Asians can rejoice as the beloved romantic comedy is officially getting a sequel – but not quite the way everyone expected. After winning hearts globally with its blend of heartfelt drama and lavish luxury, the story of Rachel Chu and Nick Young is returning to screens, this time in the form of a series.

The original 2018 film became a go-to comfort watch for many, especially for those long-haul flights where its blend of romance, humor, and cultural conflict made for the perfect escape. Starring Constance Wu as Rachel, a Chinese-American professor, and Henry Golding as Nick Young, the heir to one of Asia’s wealthiest families, the film explored love entangled with identity, tradition, and family expectations.

What made the original so impactful wasn’t just the grandeur of Singapore’s elite or the opulence that defined every scene, but the emotional weight carried by the characters. Rachel and Nick’s journey wasn’t simple; it delved into real-life dilemmas like parental expectations, self-worth, and identity, all while keeping the tone light and watchable thanks to its stellar cast and comic relief.

At a recent screening of Another Simple Favor, actor Henry Golding confirmed that a sequel is underway. Initially, many assumed that the second installment would hit the big screen, but director Jon M. Chu has since revealed that the next chapter will be presented as a series instead of a feature film.

The storyline will follow Rachel’s journey through China as she discovers and reconnects with her biological father, continuing where the first film left off. Constance Wu and Henry Golding are both set to reprise their roles, and Michelle Yeoh is also returning as the formidable Eleanor Young. This new installment will draw its narrative from Kevin Kwan’s follow-up novels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, rounding out the trilogy that inspired the original.

Filming is expected to begin later this year. So get ready to dive back into a world of extravagance, emotional depth, and cultural richness — but this time, episode by episode. It might just become your next binge-worthy obsession on international flights and beyond.
