Jackie Chan Urges Hollywood to Speed Up Rush Hour 4 Before It’s Too Late

Date:

Jackie Chan is once again making headlines with his honest and humorous take on the long-awaited Rush Hour 4. At 71 years old, the martial arts legend has expressed his desire to return to one of his most beloved roles, but only if the film gets off the ground quickly. During recent promotions for his upcoming movie Karate Kid: Legends, Chan spoke candidly about his experiences filming the Rush Hour trilogy and why time is running out for a sequel.

While reflecting on the iconic buddy-cop franchise, Chan discussed what made each of the original films unique. He shared that the first Rush Hour film had limited resources and was filmed at a fast pace, saying, “The first one: little money, little time. We shot it like, ‘Go, go, go!’” He contrasted this with the later sequels, remarking, “The second one: a lot of money, a lot of time. The third one: too much money, too much time. Too much money is no good.” This glimpse into the behind-the-scenes process reveals Chan’s belief that simplicity and urgency contributed to the charm of the first film.

When asked directly about Rush Hour 4, Chan made it clear that he’s still on board — but only if things move quickly. He joked, “Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.” His remarks brought both laughs and a sense of urgency to a project that fans have been eagerly awaiting for over two decades.

Though the film is not yet confirmed, this isn’t the first time Rush Hour 4 has been teased. Back in 2022, Chan confirmed discussions were underway, and co-star Chris Tucker also hinted at something big in development. Tucker had shared his excitement by saying, “You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level. Rush Hour 4 — that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie.”

The original Rush Hour films, directed by Brett Ratner, were a massive success. They brought together Jackie Chan’s action-packed Hong Kong detective Lee and Chris Tucker’s lively LAPD officer Carter. The blend of fast-paced action and comedy created a global phenomenon. However, Ratner’s departure from the industry following controversies has remained a roadblock for the project.

Despite the challenges, Jackie Chan’s enthusiasm for continuing the franchise is still strong. His comments on the Karate Kid: Legends red carpet are a clear sign that the door remains open for Rush Hour 4. While no production schedule or official announcements have been made, Chan’s willingness to reunite with Tucker keeps hope alive for fans longing to see their favorite duo back in action.
