Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, is officially stepping back into his iconic role—this time on stage. Felton will appear in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, marking the first time a cast member from the original movie franchise has taken part in the theatrical adaptation.
Felton revealed his return during an appearance on NBC’s Today show, announcing a 19-week run on Broadway where he will portray an older version of Draco. The play is set nearly two decades after the conclusion of J.K. Rowling’s magical saga, focusing on the next generation of Hogwarts students—the children of Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione.
Speaking about the emotional return, Felton shared, “It’s a completely new experience. I’ve known Draco as a teenager, but now I get to discover who he is as a father. When they fitted me with the blond wig again, it hit me emotionally—I actually cried.”
While Felton seems overjoyed with the opportunity, not all fans are feeling the same nostalgia. Many took to social media to express disappointment, suggesting the actor should move on from the character he’s played since childhood. One user commented, “He’s pushing 40 and still playing Draco? Time to let go.” Others echoed the sentiment, saying, “He’s the only one from the original cast still stuck in the past.”
Despite mixed reactions, Felton’s return brings a unique connection to the beloved film franchise and is expected to draw both loyal Potterheads and curious theatre-goers to Broadway. Whether it’s embraced with applause or criticism, his presence guarantees added spotlight on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child during his limited engagement.
