The announcement was made by co-creator Neil Druckmann during a recent FYC panel, confirming that the upcoming season will focus primarily on Abby’s journey.
While the conclusion of Season 2 hinted at the story transitioning from Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, to Abby, Druckmann made it official by declaring, “I can’t believe they allowed us to structure the series this way. Season 3 will star — spoiler alert — Kaitlyn.” The statement was originally quoted by Variety and has since sparked widespread discussion among the fanbase.
Abby’s character became one of the most talked-about figures in the second season after her controversial decision to kill Joel, played by Pedro Pascal — a pivotal moment that significantly changed the direction of the story.
Addressing the fan reactions, Kaitlyn Dever shared her thoughts during the panel via a virtual appearance. She stated, “The controversy around Abby wasn’t something I really worried about, especially after speaking with Craig and Neil.
