Netflix is set to bring a visually surreal and emotionally rich animated film to audiences this year with its upcoming original In Your Dreams. The official trailer for the film has just been released, offering a wild peek into a kaleidoscopic world filled with unpredictable chaos, emotional depth, and a generous helping of humor.
The story follows siblings Stevie and Elliot, who stumble upon a strange book titled The Legend of the Sandman. Their curiosity quickly pulls them into a dreamscape that defies logic and bursts with vibrant imagination. The trailer, layered with Eurythmics’ iconic Sweet Dreams, takes viewers through dream sequences filled with floating pancakes, zombie breakfast items, and the kind of scenarios that blend childhood wonder with subconscious oddities.
The dream world isn’t just a bizarre playground—it’s a mission zone. Stevie and Elliot must navigate doughnut towns, shadowy creatures, and peculiar characters like a sarcastic stuffed giraffe named Baloney Tony to fulfill their greatest wish: a perfect family. But this surreal journey is as challenging as it is hilarious, pushing them to face fears, desires, and the bittersweet nature of dreams themselves.
The animation, produced by Kuku Studios, combines chaotic fun with warm emotional undertones. The art style leans into a candy-colored, high-energy aesthetic that vividly mirrors the strange and wonderful rules of the dream world.
In Your Dreams boasts a stellar voice cast featuring Craig Robinson as Baloney Tony, along with Simu Liu, Cristin Milioti, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Elias Janssen, Omid Djalili, Gia Carides, SungWon Cho, and Zachary Noah Piser.
Directed by Alex Woo and co-directed by Erik Benson, the film is based on a story developed by Woo and Stanley Moore, with the screenplay penned by Woo and Benson. The project is produced by Timothy Hahn and Gregg Taylor, while the musical score is crafted by John Debney.
In a recent panel at Netflix on June 6, director Alex Woo shared insight into the creative process behind the film. “Animated dream movies have always been elusive,” he explained. “Almost every major studio has tried to develop one, but none could really crack how to make it feel urgent or real. Our goal was to ask what happens when dreams don’t come true. How do you hold onto hope? How do you keep moving forward?”
With its innovative premise, compelling voice performances, and breathtaking animation, In Your Dreams is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most imaginative offerings yet.
