Jebel Ali Beach is set to become Dubai’s longest public beach, with new development plans recently approved. The 6.6-kilometre beach will feature a variety of amenities, including swimming and diving facilities, walkways with viewing platforms, children’s play areas, and a unique mangrove ecosystem.
The project, confirmed on Sunday, July 7, will cover a vast area of 330 hectares. It includes a 5-kilometre sandy beach developed by Nakheel and a 1.6-kilometre mangrove beach developed by Dubai Municipality. One of the exciting aspects of the development is the turtle rehabilitation programmes, which will allow visitors to observe turtles in their natural habitat.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed stated, “Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we are dedicated to developing the infrastructure and services needed to offer diverse urban experiences for citizens, residents, and visitors.” He added, “Our focus is on creating spaces rich in beaches, open areas, and recreational greens to enhance the well-being of the city’s people and create a healthy environment, making Dubai the world’s best place to live in.”
The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project is part of a broader initiative to expand Dubai’s public beaches, aiming to increase the total length by 400%. This long-term vision includes adding new public beaches and enhancing existing ones with more activities and facilities.
This announcement follows recent news about the expansion of the Dubai Metro, which will include 140 stations covering over 228 square kilometres by 2040. Currently, the metro operates 64 stations over an area of 84 square kilometres. The expansion is part of Dubai’s strategic plans to reduce carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita and boost economic opportunities by developing areas around metro stations.
In other significant developments, Dubai has ambitious plans for Al Maktoum International Airport, aiming to make it the world’s largest capacity airport. Announced on April 28, 2024, the Dhs128 billion project will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport upon completion, eventually accommodating up to 260 million passengers.
