Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Slams His Own Team Says Red Devils Not Ready for European Football

Date:

Manchester United’s turbulent start to the 2025-26 Premier League season has drawn a harsh reality check from manager Ruben Amorim, who openly admitted that his side is not yet ready for the demands of European competitions.

The Red Devils remain winless after two league games, having lost 0-1 to Arsenal in their opener before being held to a frustrating goalless draw against Fulham. Amorim, speaking ahead of the EFL Cup second-round clash against Grimsby Town, confessed that the current squad lacks the foundation to compete at the highest level, particularly in tournaments like the UEFA Champions League.

“Not prepared for Europe”

Reflecting on United’s struggles, Amorim said:

“I think we were not prepared to play in Europe, that is my feeling. To have strong games in the Champions League and then play the Premier League, we need time to develop as a team. The players need to fight for their places, and then everything can change.”

Manchester United, who finished 15th last season in the Premier League and missed out on the Champions League after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, are under heavy pressure to bounce back. Amorim also highlighted the team’s overly defensive mindset, which he blamed for conceding crucial chances and losing momentum.

Upcoming fixtures and internal unrest

United’s next league test comes against Burnley on August 30, following their midweek EFL Cup tie. The team currently sits 16th in the standings with just one point from two games. Adding to the woes, reports from the Guardian suggest that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is unsettled and considering an exit after being left out of the opening fixtures.

Amorim insisted that his team needs time to build a stronger base before competing regularly in Europe, but the pressure from fans and media continues to grow as United seek their first win of the new season.
