Apple has rolled out the third developer beta of iOS 18, bringing new customization features and UI tweaks to iPhones. This update, released on Monday, introduces automatic Dark Mode icon theming for third-party apps, a more user-friendly flashlight interface, and several other enhancements.
First previewed at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 on June 10, iOS 18 has undergone multiple beta iterations, each adding new features and improvements. The latest update, iOS 18 Developer Beta 3, identified by build number 22A5307F, was highlighted by MacRumors for its automatic Dark Mode theming support, enabling app icons with white backgrounds to switch to black.
In addition to Dark Mode theming, Apple showcased new home screen customization options at WWDC 2024, allowing users to add a color tint to icons or enable a dark theme for app icons. The update also resolves some bugs related to this feature.
The update further combines emoji, Memoji, and stickers into a single, scrollable interface on iOS. The Photos app now displays a Select option at the top-right corner by default, improving usability.
Other new features include more options for RCS texts in the Messages app, a larger interface for the flashlight feature, dynamic versions of iOS 18 wallpapers, and updated colors for the Apple Maps icon.
Additionally, code found in iOS 18 Developer Beta 3 hints at upcoming AI features from Apple Intelligence, including Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, and Writing Tools. These AI enhancements were teased during the WWDC keynote, though they are expected to debut next year, with iOS 18 set for release in the coming months, likely alongside the iPhone 16 series in September.
