American Taylor Townsend and Czech partner Katerina Siniakova claimed the Wimbledon 2024 women’s doubles title, securing Townsend’s first Grand Slam win. They triumphed over Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe with a score of 7-6(5), 7-6(1) under the illuminated Centre Court roof.
Townsend, who previously reached the U.S. Open doubles final in 2022 and the French Open doubles final in 2023, finally achieved Grand Slam success with Siniakova, who now boasts nine doubles Slam titles. The duo’s victory came in just their 10th match together.
The 28-year-old Townsend, a Chicago native who became a mother in 2021, expressed her joy on court, saying, “I’m so glad I could team up with Katerina. In my first Grand Slam final, she beat me, so it was great to be on the same side this time. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks and it means a lot to get across the finishing line.”
Routliffe, despite the loss, reached the number one spot in the women’s doubles rankings. “This was my first Wimbledon final, but hopefully not my last,” Routliffe commented. “There’s something about Wimbledon that makes every match so much more emotional.”
Siniakova also celebrated her previous doubles success, having won her first two Wimbledon doubles titles with Barbora Krejcikova, who claimed the singles title earlier. “I’m so proud of Barbora and I’m so happy that we could do it as well,” Siniakova said.
