Hardik Pandya Likely to Miss India vs Australia ODIs Due to Injury Recovery Says Report

Date:

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya faces a major setback as he is expected to miss the upcoming India vs Australia ODI series following a quadriceps injury sustained during the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka in Dubai. Reports suggest the Mumbai Indians skipper has been advised four weeks of rest, making his participation in the ODIs highly unlikely.

Pandya’s injury already ruled him out of the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where Rinku Singh stepped in as his replacement. According to medical assessments, his left quadriceps issue requires careful recovery, and despite optimism, he will not be available for the three-match ODI series beginning October 19 at Optus Stadium, Perth.

While chances remain slim for the ODI leg, Pandya could still make a late recovery and be considered for the five-match T20I series starting October 29 in Hobart. His availability will depend on his fitness progress and the final clearance from the BCCI medical team, which is expected to release an official update soon.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri, speaking during commentary in the Asia Cup final, confirmed that Pandya’s quadriceps injury was more serious than initially anticipated. The injury forced him to bowl just one over against Sri Lanka before leaving the field in discomfort.

Hardik Pandya’s Asia Cup 2025 Performance

In the Asia Cup, Hardik opened the bowling alongside Jasprit Bumrah. Across six matches, he picked up four wickets and scored 48 runs, with his top score being 38 against Bangladesh. Despite his limited contribution, India went on to clinch their ninth Asia Cup title, with standout performances from Tilak Varma (69), Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh* helping India chase down Pakistan’s total in the final.

As the Australia tour approaches, the spotlight now shifts to whether Hardik can recover in time for the T20Is. His absence in the ODIs will be a significant blow for Team India, especially with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to the squad after stepping away from Test cricket earlier this year.
