Etihad Rail Passenger Services Set to Begin in 2026 – Routes, Stations, Travel Times and Amenities

Date:

The UAE is gearing up for a major travel transformation as Etihad Rail passenger services are scheduled to launch in 2026. Currently handling freight, the national rail network will soon connect all seven emirates, offering faster, greener, and more convenient travel. Annual ridership is expected to reach 36.5 million passengers across the UAE.

The first passenger stations will be located in Sakamkam, Fujairah, and near University City, Sharjah, with additional stations planned for Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including a future stop at Al Maktoum International Airport. The 900-kilometer network will connect 11 cities, linking Al Sila, Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah. Travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai or Dubai to Fujairah will take just 50 minutes, with high-speed rail reducing this to 30 minutes.

Passenger trains will have a maximum speed of 200 km/h, offering economy, family, and first-class seating for around 400 passengers per train. Amenities include infotainment systems, charging stations, food and beverage service, spacious seating, air-conditioning, and dedicated spaces for work, relaxation, or reading. Italian luxury hospitality company Arsenale will deliver an Orient Express-style luxury experience on board.

The trains are being designed and manufactured by CAF in Spain, ensuring European standards of safety and comfort. Each station will include retail outlets, family-friendly amenities, and business-class lounges.

Passenger services will share tracks with the existing Etihad Rail freight network, which currently uses 38 locomotives and over 1,000 wagons to transport goods efficiently across the Emirates. The rail network will also help reduce road congestion and cut carbon emissions by 21 percent by 2050, with each train trip removing the equivalent of 300 trucks from UAE roads.

Additionally, future projects include high-speed rail linking Dubai and Abu Dhabi at speeds up to 350 km/h and international connections to Oman, including a line between Abu Dhabi and Sohar, with travel times of around 1 hour 40 minutes.

The introduction of Etihad Rail passenger trains marks a new era in UAE travel, offering comfort, speed, and sustainability for residents and tourists alike.
