Nutritious Karela Tikki Recipe for Healthy Snacking

This Healthy Karela Tikki is a flavorful and nutritious snack made with bitter gourd, paneer, besan, onions, and aromatic spices. Perfect for a weight loss diet or diabetes-friendly meal, these pan-fried tikkis are packed with fiber and essential nutrients. Enjoy them with green chutney or as a wholesome appetizer for your family.


Ingredients

  • 2 large karelas (bitter gourd)
  • 1/2 cup low-fat paneer, grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1 tsp amchur powder or chaat masala
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp ajwain seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for pan-frying

Method

  1. Wash the karela thoroughly and grate it. Transfer the grated karela to a mixer-grinder and pulse into a coarse mixture. Add 1 tsp salt and set aside for 30 minutes.
  2. Finely chop onions, green chillies, ginger, garlic, and coriander leaves. Keep ready in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Squeeze out excess water from the karela mixture and add it to the bowl.
  4. Mix in paneer, spices, ajwain seeds, and besan. Adjust salt to taste and combine thoroughly.
  5. Break off small portions of the mixture and flatten into round tikkis.
  6. Pan-fry on medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with green chutney or yogurt dip.
