Team India opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a blistering performance in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash, scoring a rapid 74 runs off 39 balls in a successful 172-run chase against Pakistan. The young left-hander showed no mercy to the opposition bowlers, smashing six fours and five sixes in a knock that left Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed searching for answers.
Abhishek signaled his intent right from the start by pulling Shaheen Afridi’s very first delivery for six, setting the tone for India’s chase. He continued his assault by dispatching Haris Rauf and other Pakistan bowlers to all parts of the ground, showing fearless intent and unmatched timing.
After the match, Abhishek joined Virender Sehwag in a post-game chat where comparisons were drawn between his aggressive batting and Sehwag’s iconic first-ball boundaries. However, Abhishek dismissed the comparisons, stating that today’s bowlers don’t possess the same calibre as those Sehwag once dominated. “The bowlers Viru paaji smashed were on another level, I don’t think such bowlers exist anymore,” Abhishek remarked, clearly taking a dig at the current Pakistan attack.
While Abhishek’s fearless batting earned widespread praise, Sehwag offered some valuable advice to the youngster: “Whenever you reach 70, don’t miss out on 100. Sunil Gavaskar once told me that you’ll always remember the times you got out on 70 or 80. Convert those innings into centuries to build your legacy.”
Abhishek is currently the top run-scorer in the Asia Cup 2025, with 173 runs in four matches at an average of 43.25 and an explosive strike rate of 208.43. His consistency and dominance with the bat have made him India’s key weapon, while Pakistan continues to struggle with their seventh straight loss against India in international cricket.
