Ashwin’s follow-on jibe after India dominate Pakistan in T20 World Cup clash

Date:

India delivered another emphatic statement against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup as the Group A contest in Colombo turned into a one-sided affair. Batting first at the R Premadasa Stadium India posted a competitive 175 for 7 before dismantling Pakistan for just 114 in 18 overs to seal a commanding 61-run victory.

Suryakumar Yadav and the Indian batting unit laid the foundation while the bowling attack led by Varun Chakaravarthy Jasprit Bumrah Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel shared the spoils with two wickets apiece. Pakistan’s chase never found momentum after early blows left them three wickets down within the first two overs and under relentless pressure.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did not hold back while reacting to the result. Speaking on his YouTube channel he joked that India’s total was so dominant that it was equivalent to enforcing a follow-on in Test cricket. Ashwin remarked that on such a surface even 175 was enough to completely shut the door on the chasing side and added that a few more runs would have made the margin even more humiliating.

Ashwin also questioned Pakistan’s tactics highlighting the decision to bowl first on a pitch where defending totals had been the trend throughout the tournament. He pointed to the costly spell by Shaheen Shah Afridi and felt Pakistan misread conditions from the toss itself. According to Ashwin India’s superior handling of pressure and sharper tactical calls once again made the difference on the big stage.

With this defeat Pakistan now face a must-win situation against Namibia to keep their Super 8 hopes alive while India look firmly on course for qualification from Group A.
