Avatar Fire and Ash Box Office Update: James Cameron’s Epic Crosses $500 Million in Week One

Date:

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third chapter in the globally successful Avatar franchise, has delivered a powerful opening at the worldwide box office. Within its first week of release, the film surged past the $500 million milestone, confirming strong audience interest during the competitive holiday season.

Industry reports estimate that Fire and Ash collected around $544 million globally in its first seven days. The film opened with approximately $347 million worldwide over its debut weekend, including $88 million from the United States and Canada, while international markets contributed nearly $250 million. Additional midweek earnings pushed the total beyond the half-billion mark by Christmas Day.

Despite this impressive start, Fire and Ash did not surpass the opening-week performance of Avatar: The Way of Water, which debuted in 2022 with a stronger comparative global figure. However, Fire and Ash still stands as one of the biggest holiday releases of 2025, second only to animated hit Zootopia 2.

The film’s performance is particularly notable given the current decline in theatrical attendance and heavy competition from other major releases. Analysts suggest that the movie could gain momentum in its second week, potentially narrowing the gap with earlier Avatar installments.

Looking ahead, James Cameron has confirmed plans for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, scheduled for release in 2029 and 2031 respectively, with portions of Avatar 4 already filmed. While future releases depend on audience response and studio decisions, Fire and Ash has clearly reaffirmed the franchise’s box office strength.
