BAFTA Awards 2026 winners list: One Battle After Another sweeps top honours as Leonardo DiCaprio misses out

The 79th British Academy Film Awards delivered a glittering night of cinema at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, celebrating the finest films and performances of the year. The evening belonged firmly to Paul Thomas Anderson, whose ambitious drama One Battle After Another emerged as the most awarded title of the night, while Leonardo DiCaprio left without a trophy despite a high-profile nomination.

One Battle After Another dominated the ceremony with six major wins, securing Best Film along with trophies for Director Adapted Screenplay Cinematography Editing and Supporting Actor for Sean Penn. The film’s strong showing confirmed Anderson’s status as one of contemporary cinema’s most influential filmmakers.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners followed with three awards including Original Screenplay Original Score and Supporting Actress, while Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein impressed in technical categories, collecting multiple craft awards.

The ceremony was hosted for the first time by Alan Cumming, who guided audiences through a night filled with emotional speeches standout performances and unexpected wins. Jessie Buckley claimed Leading Actress for Hamnet, while Robert Aramayo took home Leading Actor for I Swear, beating contenders including DiCaprio Timothée Chalamet and Michael B Jordan.
