BCCI Plans Detailed Review After India’s Heavy Defeat to Pakistan in U19 Asia Cup Final

Date:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing a thorough review following India’s disappointing loss to Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup final. Despite an unbeaten run leading into the title clash, the Indian team struggled in the summit match held in Dubai, where Pakistan dominated with a commanding 191-run victory. The performance has prompted the BCCI to look closely at what went wrong during the final after such a strong tournament overall.

According to reports, the decision to conduct a review was taken during a recent online apex council meeting. Board members discussed India’s showing in the competition and agreed that a detailed assessment was necessary. The BCCI is expected to seek a formal report from team manager Salil Datar, which is standard procedure, but will also hold direct discussions with head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and captain Ayush Mhatre. This step goes beyond a routine review and reflects the seriousness with which the board is viewing the loss.

In the final, Pakistan posted a massive total of 347 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs before bowling India out for just 156. The match also witnessed moments of tension on the field, with verbal exchanges and visible confrontations between players from both sides. While it remains unclear if player behaviour will be a key focus of the review, concerns have been raised about on-field conduct during the high-pressure encounter.

The timing of the review is significant, as the ICC U19 World Cup is approaching quickly. With India’s squad for the global tournament yet to be announced, the BCCI appears keen to identify issues early, address discipline and performance gaps, and ensure the team is better prepared for upcoming challenges on the world stage.
