Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni Case Moves to Trial as Court Drops Harassment Claims but Keeps Retaliation Dispute Alive

Date:

The legal battle surrounding the film It Ends With Us has taken a significant turn after a U.S. federal court dismissed several key allegations brought by actress Blake Lively while allowing parts of the case to proceed to trial. The ruling narrows the dispute, which is now set to be heard before a jury in May.

Judge Lewis Liman ruled that multiple claims including sexual harassment defamation and conspiracy could not move forward due to insufficient legal grounding. However the court determined that other serious allegations such as breach of contract retaliation and related claims against Baldoni’s production company Wayfarer should be examined during trial proceedings.

Blake Lively is expected to testify in the upcoming trial which will present two contrasting narratives. On one side Lively alleges that she faced retaliation after raising concerns about her safety during the production. On the other side Justin Baldoni and his team argue that the claims are part of an attempt to damage his reputation and gain control over the project.

Although the harassment claim itself was dismissed the court indicated that certain actions taken after the allegations could raise concerns. The judge noted that while individuals have the right to defend themselves there is a threshold beyond which responses may be perceived as retaliatory conduct.

Court findings referenced internal communications suggesting that some members of the defense team considered aggressive public relations strategies. These included statements that could potentially harm Lively’s professional reputation and escalate the conflict beyond simple defense.

Legal representatives for Lively stated that the focus remains on alleged retaliation and the broader impact of coordinated actions taken against her. Meanwhile Baldoni’s legal team emphasized that the dismissal of major claims significantly reduces the scope of the case moving forward.

The trial is expected to center on whether actions taken by the defendants crossed legal boundaries and whether retaliation occurred following the initial allegations. With both sides preparing to present evidence the case is set to attract widespread attention in the entertainment industry.
