Bodo/Glimt stun Inter Milan with famous 2-1 win to seal Champions League exit

Date:

Bodo/Glimt produced another remarkable European night as the Norwegian side defeated Inter Milan 2-1 at San Siro to complete a stunning 5-2 aggregate victory and eliminate the Serie A leaders from the UEFA Champions League. The result is being hailed as one of the biggest shocks in recent Champions League history, especially given Inter’s status as domestic front-runners and last season’s finalists.

Inter came into the second leg under pressure after losing 3-1 in Norway and needed an early breakthrough to revive their hopes. The Italian giants dominated possession and territory from the opening whistle, repeatedly pushing Bodo/Glimt back into their own half. Despite creating wave after wave of chances, Inter struggled to find a way past a disciplined defence and an inspired goalkeeper in Nikita Haikin.

Bodo/Glimt, who have already claimed notable scalps this season against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid while also drawing with Borussia Dortmund, showed no fear on the big stage. Their energy and organisation frustrated Inter throughout the match, and they struck decisively when opportunities arose, underlining their growing reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous underdogs.

Inter head coach Cristian Chivu admitted his side fell short on the night, praising the Norwegian champions for their intensity and consistency over both legs. He acknowledged that while Inter controlled much of the game, football ultimately rewards efficiency in front of goal, something his team lacked despite overwhelming statistics in shots and possession.

The defeat adds another chapter to Inter’s uneven Champions League campaign. Although they remain 10 points clear at the top of Serie A and are closing in on the domestic title, their European form has been inconsistent. After a strong start in the league phase, Inter suffered a series of defeats that forced them into the playoff round, where Bodo/Glimt proved too strong.

For Bodo/Glimt, the victory marks a historic achievement and reinforces their rise on the continental stage. Their fearless approach, tactical discipline and ability to punish bigger teams have turned them into one of the most talked-about stories of this Champions League season.
