Brendan Fraser has finally revealed that the upcoming fourth installment of The Mummy franchise will be the version he has dreamed of creating for nearly two decades. The beloved actor, who reprises his role alongside Rachel Weisz, shared that this long-anticipated project is the closest realization of the film he originally hoped to make.
Speaking to The Associated Press, Fraser explained that despite earlier attempts, the version he envisioned never reached production—until now. “The one I wanted to make was never made. But the one I wanted to make is the one coming. I’ve waited 20 years for this moment. Sometimes the idea felt close, sometimes distant. Now, it finally feels like the right time to give the fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for,” he said.
The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo known as Radio Silence. Their involvement marks the franchise’s first major revival since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was released in 2008. Fraser’s original debut in 1999 transformed the classic Universal monster into a global action-adventure phenomenon, later expanding with spin-offs and introducing stars like Dwayne Johnson. A 2017 reboot featuring Tom Cruise failed to launch the planned Dark Universe series, leaving fans eager for Fraser’s long-awaited return.
In recent interviews, Fraser also reflected on unforgettable moments from his past films. While revisiting an image from George of the Jungle during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he laughed as he remembered the intense physical demands of the role and recalled co-star Leslie Mann’s comedic brilliance. The photo also reminded him of handling the famously sharp claws of the Tookie Tookie bird.
Another image brought him to a more reflective mood as he spoke warmly about working with Sadie Sink. Fraser described her as fiercely talented even in the early stages of her career. “I had a front-row seat to watch her give everything she had. She was a kid then, but now she’s grown into an incredible young woman,” he said.
He also shared behind-the-scenes insights from his latest project Rental Family, explaining that several scenes were filmed on a moving train with only a few stops available for retakes. Extras rode alongside regular passengers, creating what Fraser described as a “flurry of activity” that matched the film’s emotional tone. He referred to the project as a “love letter to loneliness,” shaped by the energy and atmosphere of Tokyo.
