Cardiologist Shares 10 Practical Lifestyle Habits That May Support a Longer and Healthier Life

Date:

A well-known New York cardiologist with decades of clinical experience has outlined ten straightforward lifestyle habits that may help people improve their long-term health. Dr Evan Levine, a specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital with more than 30 years in cardiovascular care, recently shared a series of recommendations aimed at adults starting from age 30 who want to reduce health risks and build a stronger foundation for longevity.

His guidance centres on removing or limiting everyday habits that contribute to heart strain and chronic illness. Dr Levine urges individuals to completely avoid smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke due to its link with dozens of carcinogens and its impact on stroke heart attacks and vascular diseases. He also advises keeping alcohol intake extremely low because frequent drinking may raise blood pressure and elevate the risk of various cancers. Fast food and highly processed meals are another major concern because of their dense calories and long-term metabolic effects. He further includes recreational drugs stimulants and even unnecessary higher doses of ADHD medications on the list of substances to minimise.

Beyond avoiding harmful behaviours Dr Levine encourages people to build simple daily routines that support heart health. He recommends incorporating any form of physical activity into the day even if it is just regular walking with a target of around 7000 steps. Checking blood pressure and aiming for readings near 120 over 80 is another priority along with monitoring cholesterol levels especially LDL. According to Dr Levine high LDL readings above 190 should be managed medically while others can benefit from dietary improvements and consistent exercise.

He also stresses the importance of cutting down sugary drinks and sodas which contribute to weight gain and metabolic issues. Reducing emotional strain staying away from toxic or stressful relationships and surrounding oneself with supportive friends are additional habits he believes can help protect long-term wellness. Finally he highlights the value of establishing steady sleep patterns which can positively influence cardiovascular health mood and overall resilience.

These tips reflect general wellness guidance and should not replace personalised medical advice. Individuals with specific concerns are encouraged to consult a qualified healthcare professional.
